FAQ
What should I do when I arrive?
First you should register online, then go into the registration office (NEW HOURS BELOW) and receive a wristband. Look for the signs for reserved parking while registering. The PLD registration office is located in the SE corner of the Worship Center (not in the white building closer to the road that says "office", which is the LGCC office). Everyone needs to register to attend, regardless of whether you are staying at the campgrounds or in town. When you stop by the office after registering (this can only be done online), you will receive a wristband to wear during the entirety of camp. The wristband allows LGCC staff and PLD security to know that you have permission to be on the campgrounds. At this time, you may then also buy meal tickets, and if you are staying on the campground, receive your housing information, receive keys (only at certain times, see below), etc. There is a $5 CASH deposit per key for LGCC lodging. When you check out, you will receive your $5 or $10 back or you may donate it to PLD Family Camp expenses. Depending on your arrival time, your housing may not yet be available. Guaranteed times are listed below.

What is there to do?
There are tons of fun activities to do at LGCC including disc golf, gaga ball, rock climbing, volleyball, pickleball, and basketball (indoors & out). Find a table in Geneva Java to play board games with your friends. Take a leisurely pontoon ride or go fishing. Go swimming and check out the huge waterslide and watch as people "blob" each other at the beach into the lake. You can borrow equipment from the LGCC office (the white building near the entrance of the camp, not the PLD office in the sanctuary) for disc golf and pickleball for a small deposit which you will receive back after returning the equipment. Some churches plan activities with the people from their church. Ask your pastor if your church has any group activities planned--or volunteer to plan something for your church attenders (campfire, cookout, games...). Also see this document for the NYI planned activities schedule.

What is happening earlier in the week? Am I invited?
Yes--you are invited! Monday night kicks off our joint conventions representing youth, discipleship, and missions. This resumes on Tuesday morning and includes a combination of business (voting, departmental reports, etc.) as well as special speakers. Wednesday morning begins our Prairie Lakes District Assembly including more business. It's a great way to learn about what is happening elsewhere in our PLD churches! Feel free to pop in and check it out. If you're not a voting delegate, it would be best to sit in the back half of the worship center to distinguish that you're a "guest". Stay for a few minutes or all morning. Wednesday evening is a special service ordaining new pastors in the Church of the Nazarene with a reception in the dining hall afterwards. See the camp schedule for more information.

Who is at Family Camp?
All the Nazarene churches in our three-state Prairie Lakes District are invited! The people you see probably attend one of our Nazarene churches. At the beginning of the week, during conventions and District Assembly, we share the campgrounds with another group not affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. Their wristbands are a different color than ours. They leave on Thursday afternoon. Once they're gone, it's just us!

What about my kids? Is there anything for them?
There's so much for kids to do at Family Camp! There are lots of kids running around, playing at the playground, playing gaga ball, making new friends, swimming on the beach or at the pool (located in Legacy Lodge), or hanging out in the Rec Room & Geneva Java. Many kids bring their bikes, scooters, or rollerblades. This is a great way to get around and explore the campgrounds! Bikes, skateboards, etc. are not allowed either in or around the public buildings, however, so make sure they stay off the side-walks and stick to the campground roads.

If your kids went to PLD kids camp in June or teen camp in July, chances are they reconnecting with new friends they made there! There will be teen and young adult activities during the week (you can grab a schedule from the PLD office or click here for a digital copy). There are kids' programs during the mornings (age 4 through entering 6th grade). A nursery is available during morning & evening services (birth through 3 years), but only for children of parents that are attending the service.

Do you need help? Can I volunteer?
Our biggest need for help is always with the nursery, although there may be other positions where we need help such as ushers, kid's helpers, teen activities chaperones, ordination reception helpers, video/tech, musicians, etc. One of the perks of volunteering is that you are eligible for early registration! Contact us at info@pldfamilycamp.org to inquire about volunteering for this year or next.

What are my meal options?
There is a dining hall on the campgrounds. You can purchase tickets at the PLD office for a reduced price, or at the dining hall for full price. See the camp schedule for pricing information. If you have a special diet, LGCC will do its best to accommodate your medical needs. Please fill out this form and return it to info@pldfamilycamp.org at least 14 days prior to attendance. The dining hall menu is not provided to the PLD staff until we arrive on site, so that is why we don't publish it ahead of time on our website. You may ask for a menu at the PLD office.
Many people bring a small, dorm-sized refrigerator and/or microwave for easy meals and snacks. Some people bring a large cooler and buy ice, as needed, to keep refrigerated food on hand. There are several restaurants in Alexandria as well as grocery stores. There are charcoal grills and picnic tables throughout the campground. Or make a new friend that has a campsite and invite yourself over! HOWEVER, if you bring your own grill or device to cook with, please not that you may not cook/grill within 9 feet of the buildings, including the cabins (again, microwaves are allowed). This means you cannot cook on the decks of the dormitories or duplexes.

Can I bring my pet?
NO PETS unless they are gentle, quiet pets and stay in the Hillcrest RV Park ONLY (which means you must be staying in the Hillcrest RV Park as well). Pets must be kept on a leash and confined to the individual RV site. Owners are required to clean up after their pets. All pets must remain in the Hillcrest RV Park with the exception of licensed working dogs. You will be asked to leave the LGCC property with no refund if a pet is found outside of the Hillcrest RV Park area.
